SAX-D Area Alarm
Application:
The SAX-D Area Alarm is used to monitor pipeline pressure within a ward, theatre etc. via transducers in the pipeline downstream from the last AVSU. Pressure is monitored by utilising the specific 4-20ma output of each transducer to display High Pressure, Normal, Pressure Drop & Low Pressure for Gases and Pressure Drop & Low Pressure only for Vacuum.
The integrity of the cabling between the transducers and the alarm panel is monitored, and a fault on this cable will result in a system fault alarm, with all affected conditions going into a alarm condition stating Signal Fault.
Upto 4no SAX-D Alarm Displays can be connected to the same Encoder in parallel using a 4-core 12vdc RS485 data connection.
Each SAX-D Display provides status for up to 3 gases (either channels 1-3 or 4-6).
In areas where more that 3 gases are present, twin 2×3 gas (6 gas) Alarms can be used.
SAX-D Encoder can be used for existing SAX-6 Area Alarms, provided power and data inputs are installed. This is achieved by using the existing 3-core data cable to the SAX-6 Alarms from the SAX Analogue output terminals (A,B,C). It means that where there is more than one Alarm on a system, only the Primary Alarm needs to be changed, the repeater Alarm could be left or upgraded as budgets allow.
Similarly, SAX Computer Interfaces can also be linked into the SAX-6 Analogue output for cross system interfacing, alternatively a Modbus2 interface is also available from the SAX-D Encoder.
Features:
Simple connection:
All connections on the Encoder are via unpluggable two piece terminals for ease of maintenance. These provide connections for the following:
2-core voltage supply (12v), from integral power supply unit.
6no 2-core data cable connection for up to 6no separate 4-20ma transducers.
4-core data cable connects the SAX-D Encoder to an SAX-D Display panel, regardless of the number of gases. The cable is then connected between the first SAX-D display to a second, if required, as so on up to 4no Displays.
4-core data cable transmits an Modbus2 protocol – details available in appendix of O&M.
3-core data cable for SAX-6 analogue output for existing SAX-6 equipment.
2-core for ‘Common Fault Relay’ connection.
2-core 7.6v battery pack connection.
Simple modular maintenance:
The Encoder module provides connection of 230vac via a fused terminal. The entire Encoder can be changed by disconnecting this termination and removing the mounting plate, PCB and Power Supply as a single fixing and replacing.
Both the Display and Encoder PCB’s are designed with pluggable terminations. This means that simple maintenance tasks can be achieved in minutes, as follows:
Changing an Encoder PCB can be achieved by unplugging all removable termination plugs, unclipping the PCB from the 4no fixing point, fitting a replacement PCB and plugging back in the data plugs and remaking the power terminations.
Changing a Display is even more simple, by removing the 2no fixing screws and unplugging the PCB/Bezel assembly from the 4-way plug terminal. The plugging in the new assembly and replacing the fixing screws.
Installation requirements:
A 230 vac supply, fused at 3 amps, fed from the essential supply.
A 4-core screened cable (1mm CSA per core) from the Encoder to the display panel(s).
A 2-core cable from each transducer (1 per gas).
Modbus 4-core, SAX-6 3-core & Common Fault 2-core are ALL optional.
Equipment Warranty:
Warranty: alarms returned to our works which have failed due to faulty parts or manufacture will be repaired (or replaced) without charges for parts and labour.
OLED displays are estimated to have a 5 year life length suitable for this application and can be refitted into existing displays, without the need to replace the whole display assembly.
Battery life length for the Encoder and Display battery pack is estimated at 4-5 years life span.
10 year compatibility warranty: Install the SAX-D with the confidence that equipment will be available to modify or extend the system for at least 10 years.
