FAQs

The simple answer is up to 15 gases.

The SDX system can be divided into three comprising parts. Transmitters, Receivers and Cable.

Each gas source (i.e. Plant, Manifold, Vie, etc) will require a single gas transmitter (or a single channel of a multi-gas transmitter).

The SDX Plant Alarms (the Receivers) can each display up to 5 of any of these gases (where more than 5 gases are required, a second or third alarm can be mounted adjacent). Hence 15 gases can be displayed from 3 x 5 gas Plant Alarms located together.

All of the transmitters used on the system and the Plant Alarms should be connected via a 2-core 0.5mmCSA screened cable.
All analogue inputs from the gas sources should be connected using a 5-core 0.5mmCSA screened cable.
REMEMBER TO EARTH ALL SCREENS AT BOTH ENDS OF EACH CABLE.

This means that a remote Mute or Test option can be taken up by fitting a simple momentary action 'push to make' switch.

More importantly, these terminals should always be used to connect between the Plant Alarms on the Central Panel location, where more than one alarm is used (i.e. where system with more that 5 gases are operating).

One function of the Mute button silences the audible warning for a fixed period. However, on the Central Alarm, the mute function also stabilises the flashing gas warning conditions that are lit, which is then stabilised on all repeater panels around the site. This tells remote operators that the gas warnings have been centrally recognised and that servicing procedures are in place. If this parallel link between these terminals on a multi Central Panel are not made, then a gas alarm being muted on the second or third alarm at the central point would not issue the stabilising function.
